Disastrous Love

Love is the most powerful thing above the earth. Many cities, countries, kingdoms, lives and families are ruin because of love. The work of the Visayan writer, Mr. Peter Solid Nerry “Gugma sa Panahon sang Bakunawa” is one of his master pieces that makes him popular in the Philippines. Love plays a big role in the film and it shows on how it destroys the morality of the character. Mr. Nerry makes this film for the preservation of the Visayan Literature.

The spirit of morality exists in the “Isla Pulang Pasayan with the existence of the man of immorality-Emilio. This is the place where Dulce goes. Unexpectedly, she meets Emilio in the beach. “Ako si Emilio, anung pangalan mo? Sabi ko, ako si Emilio! Anung pangalan mo!” Emilio asked Dulce. As Dulce answers him, her life is already under the control of the power of the Bakunawa from the time she looks at the eyes of Emilio. “Daw na hypnotized niya ako Matt.” Dulce said. From that very moment, Bakunawa destroys the moralityof Dulce. On the other hand, Dulce falls in love with this man secretly, even though he brings disaster to her life. “Gina higugma ko na sya bisan sin-o pa sya.” Du7lce murmured. Emilio disappears at ‘Isla Pukang Pasayan.” He leaves Dulce alone and pregnant. Unfortunately, her parents could not accept her and they despise her, for what happens at her. “Isa ini kang kahuyanan ang imo ginhimo Dulce. Gani, LAYAS! Kay basi mapatay ko pa ika!” Dolce’s father  cried. Even the world hates her, yet she hopes that the man she loves-Emilio will come back and comforts her. “nakahibalo ako nga maga balik sya sa amon sang iya anak.” Dulce said.

Days, weeks and months come and go, Emilio didn’t comes back. Because of her long agony in waiting Emilio, Dulce becomes like a fool lady. “ Tatlo….ka pato….ang nakita…. matambok….  maniwang…. pero…. parariho!” Dulce sung unconsciously. At that time, Mateo meets her for the fist mment, but Mateo thinks that she is a foolish beggar. For the second time, they meet each other again and Dulce is on her conscious mind. “”Daw ikaw man ato ang nakita nga babaye sa baybay kagab-i?” Mateo asked. “Ah! Oo , Sulce Amor, amo ina ang ngalan ko.” Dulce answered. From that time, the cecome close and know each other. Mateo becomes a comforter of Dulce and she shares everything that happens at her. “Matt, salamat gid sa pagpamati mo sa istorya sang akun nga kabuhi.”Dulce said. They become comfortable with each other and Mateo falls in love with her. “Sang una ko palang ikaw nakitan gin huigugma ko na ikaw.” Mateo said. Dulce gives an assurance to Mateo for his love. “Kun indi na magpakita pa si Emilio sa akon Matt tubtub matapos ang Bakunawa Festival, mabalusan ko gd ina ang imo pag palangga sa akun.” Dulce said.

The time of Bakunawa Festival in Isla Pulang Pasayan comes. This festival shows the immorality of the persons who join in this celebration. “ang ini nga okasyon naga pakita sang imoralidad sang nga tawo, kag ini man naga pahigko sang paminsaron sang mga kabata an.” The Priest said. This festival brings a bad influence to the children and to the people in the society. One of the proofs of it is the things that happen in Dulce. Even though, this celebration have a bad influence to the people, it also brings business in the Isla Pulang Pasayan. It also halps to improve the economic status of the Island. “naga damo na ang mga negosyante nga naga kadto diri kag ini naga pabulig uswag sang anton banwa.” Mateo said. Before the celebration ends, Mateo and Dulce join in dancing with the crowd. Unexpectedly, the man of immorality-the Bakunawa-Emilio comes back. Dulce sees him and she stops in dancing and runs to Emilio. She gives him a very tight hug, which means their love remains firm and strong.

The love of the two persons comes that from different dimensions that will prevail at the end of time. Even their love is a root of all disaster that comes in their lives. Not all the time, you can get all the things that you want. Even the life of Dulce ruins by the from the time the Emilio comes, she still have the faith and the hope that their love will end forever.
